Gender-neutral parenting – this is the term used when parents raise their children neither as a girl nor a boy, nor as a non-binary person. Jule and Fin_ja have opted for a similar approach when raising their child, Nova. Their child is growing up gender-open, meaning they have a diverse range of pronouns and genders. Accordingly, Nova chooses which gender spectrum she places herself on. Nova's parents see things completely differently. For them, gender is not purely physical or biological, but is also shaped over the course of life by external influences and experiences. Nova couldn't be assigned a gender yet, because she'll have to figure it out for herself over the course of her life. And Nova's parents hope to raise children with fewer prejudices. A discrimination-free world is their goal. A study from Uppsala University in Sweden backs them up. The study compared children from gender-neutral preschools with children from conventional preschools and concluded that the gender-neutral children were significantly less likely to think in gender stereotypes.
