Runyon was famous for funny and sentimental stories that depicted colorful character types like gangsters, gamblers, actors, and hustlers, and he usually gave them colorful names, you know, like "Nathan Detroit" or "Sky Masterson" "Benny Southstreet", "Big Jule", "Dave the Dude", or "The Seldom Seen Kid". The Narrative Voice and Characters in Runyon Stories always used a distinct dialect which has been coined "Runyonesque".
