Suspects in stolen car fired 'unprovoked' shot at Aurora officers

The Aurora Police Department (APD) is investigating a shooting involving APD officers that happened at a shopping center near East 6th Avenue and Peoria Street Wednesday night. The incident began when officers began following a stolen white Kia sedan which was occupied by at least two people. At about 9:45 p.m., the Kia driver pulled into the parking lot of the shopping center, APD said. At that time, at least one person in the vehicle, unprovoked, began firing multiple rounds at two officers who were in an unmarked police car, police said. Those officers returned fire. After the exchange of gunfire, the suspects attempted to drive away and were confronted by additional responding APD officers. The suspects began firing again shots at the officers before they drove out of the parking lot, police said. Four police cars were hit by the suspect's gunfire, according to APD.
