Chronic prostatitis and sexual abstinence. Myth or reality?

The impact of sexual abstinence on men's health is a topic shrouded in numerous myths and speculation. Prostatitis is an inflammatory disease of the prostate gland. Any inflammation is caused by an infection. Some infections are exclusively sexually transmitted, so prostatitis very often affects men who have an active and regular sex life. If a man is sexually inactive, there is a protective mechanism that relieves the stress of prolonged abstinence: involuntary nocturnal emissions (wet dreams). Thus, sexual abstinence under certain conditions can increase the likelihood of prostatitis, but it does not guarantee its occurrence and is not the primary cause.
