The Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) is a highly mobile automated system that shoots surface-to-surface rockets from the M270 launcher family of weapons. The three-man crew of the MLRS Family of Munitions (MLRS MFOM) can launch the MLRS MFOM in less than one minute, as proven during Operation Desert Storm. Lockheed Martin has been tasked with restocking more than 50 M270 launchers for the US Army. The M270s will be overhauled and upgraded as "zero-time" launchers by Lockheed Martin in collaboration with the Red River Army Depot. The US Army's MLRS recapitalization program will ultimately convert its present fleet of 225 M270A1 launchers and 160 retired M270A0 launchers to M270A2s. Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control manufacture the combat-proven multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) M270, a highly mobile rocket artillery weapon, Rockets are launched directly from containers, Six rockets are contained in each disposable canister
