Children of Tsunami February 2005 - Beam

The Asian Tsunami 2004 left a trail of destruction in South Asia and Southeast Asia. Picking up from where the news media left off, Children of Tsunami tracks the recovery of eight affected families in the four hardest hit countries. We will be visiting them once a month from February to December 2005. In February(5min x 8 Progs), we begin with the eight children telling us what happened and how they are coping now. In India, Selvam lost his mother, his family's sole bread-winner. Mala's fisherman father survived with injuries, only to find his livelihood gone. In Sri Lanka, the homes of both Heshani and Theeban were wrecked beyond repair: one family survived, but the other was torn apart. In Indonesia, Putri and Yenni both lost sisters and homes. And in Thailand, Bao is grieving the loss of both parents, while his grandparents struggle to keep the survivors alive. Not far away, Beam wonders why her father won't come back home.
