Ukrainian forces struck a number of key Russian energy and military facilities on Saturday, a day after Russia deployed its Oreshnik hypersonic missile in a massive attack on Ukraine. A Ukrainian drone struck an oil depot in Russia’s Volgograd region, causing fire, regional authorities said. There were no immediate reports of casualties, regional Governor Andrei Bocharov was quoted as saying in a Telegram post published on the channel of the local administration. The post did not specify the damage, but said that people living near the depot may have to be evacuated. The General Staff of Ukrainian Armed Forces confirmed the attack on the oil depot in Volgograd. In a statement published on Saturday, the General staff revealed that its forces also destroyed a Russian storage site for unmanned aerial vehicles in the occupied territory of southeastern Zaporizhzhia region. An electric station in Zaporizhzhia was struck as well. In the Pokrovsk area of eastern Donetsk region, a drone control point was eliminated. Another military facility struck in Donetsk is a command-and-observation post and a unit command post of the 41st Army. Video footage shared in social media captures moments of multiple Ukrainian strikes on Russian targets. The attack came the day after Russia bombarded Ukraine with hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles overnight into Friday, according to Ukrainian officials, killing at least four people in the capital. For only the second time in the nearly 4-year-old war, it used a powerful new hypersonic missile that struck western Ukraine on Friday in a clear warning to Kyiv’s NATO allies. Russia’s Defense Ministry said Saturday that its forces used aviation, drones, missiles and artillery to strike Ukrainian energy facilities and fuel-storage depots on Friday and overnight. It did not immediately specify the targets or damage.
