Bird's Courting Song (aka The Hawk and the Crow; Leatherwing Bat)

This song dates back before 1733 (broadside, Bodleian Harding Douce Ballads 2(243b)); other broadsides appear to date back to the seventeenth century "Woody Querristers" in the Roxburge collection. The verses we sing are a compilation of those found both in Folksongs of Britain and Ireland (Peter Kennedy from Liam O’Connor) and English folk songs from the southern Appalachians (Campbell, Olive Arnold (Dame), Sharp, Cecil James) with a few edits of our own of course!
