The four-hour closure of Bangkok''s Skytrain caused commuter chaos during the morning rush hour and raised concerns in the tense capital where hundreds of soldiers armed with automatic weapons were deployed to guard stations and other major city boulevards. A government spokesman said security forces were deployed to provide security for the public at Skytrain stations and on highways leading to Bangkok, after the protesters, known as the Red Shirts, tried to block incoming soldiers and police. Nattawut Saikua, a Red Shirt protest leader, said supporters staged the pre-dawn intrusion to the Chit Lom station of the Skytrain, which is adjacent to the main protest site, after hearing that soldiers would use the trains to send reinforcements to their main protest site. The incident occurred before service had started for the day.
