New Asheville Police Chief Send-Off
ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- Asheville's new police chief, Tammy Hooper gets a major send-off on her last day at work in Alexandria, Virginia. She's preparing to take over the top position in Asheville. Every person we spoke to here at the Alexandria Police Department said the same thing about Tammy Hooper. That Asheville is getting an outstanding law enforcement officer who climbed the ranks here and has tremendous respect. Deputy Chief Tammy Hooper got a round of applause from all her colleagues including her police chief who promoted her as the first female in the department to reach rank of deputy chief. She's worked her 26 years, getting a lot of hugs. It was clear she is admired, respected and cared about because of the qualities her colleagues descried. Integrity, a great work ethic combined with her professionalism and leadership. We got a chance to speak with Chief Hooper earlier about contact she's had with Asheville staff. Tammy Hooper, Asheville's new Police Chief, "several people have reached out to me and not anything but welcome we're glad you're coming so far everyone's been really great really positive all the city staff that I have had to work with so far and the department staff have been very welcoming." Chief Hooper said she's been keeping up with the daily watch logs for the police department to get a feel for the daily police activities and crime reports for the department.
