WABC 11pm Newscast (October 24, 2004; Complete)

The full 11pm edition of "Channel 7 Eyewitness News," airing on WABC-TV (channel 7), ABC's flagship station in New York City. This was the weekend edition of the program. The anchors are Charles Perez and Sandra Bookman, Lee Goldberg's AccuWeather forecast, and sports with Marvell Scott. Reporters include Lucy Yang, Nina Pineda and Art MacFarland. Of these personnel, Bookman, Goldberg, Pineda and Yang are still with the station, as WABC has been well known for its anchor longevity. It is part of why they are often called "the most watched television station in the United States." The day's stories include three women drowning in their car, a fire in Manhattan's East Side market, a figure skating incident, news on the 2004 election campaign including Bill Clinton aiding John Kerry's run, a child abduction and a plane accident. A rather generic news day, you get crime, politics, money, and world news all in a bundle, plus the weather and sports. Speaking of, Lee's forecast showcases mild temperatures as October reaches its final week, plus a reminder to set clocks back on Halloween. Marvell reports on NFL scores, NBA preseason and the World Series' second game. The NHL was in a lockout which cancelled its 2004-05 season, so no hockey is reported here. A rather bad day for NFL games in New York too, as the Giants and Jets lose steam. Unrelated but Damar Hamlin is in my thoughts... Again, I know it's NYC, but anything WABC is a find and worth an upload for the channel. Plus it features some longtime reporters here and you can see what they looked like 18 years ago. The news open is a bit different from my 2003 video, as Charlie Van Dyke replaced Mike Lewis (though Lewis VO's stuff during the commercials). (C) 2004 Disney/ABC. No copyright infringement intended.
