Edge was punching Punk in the corner, he gave up and lost by forfeit. A week later on Smackdown, Punk faced The Great Khali in a non-title match. Kane came out and the match ended in a no contest. A week later, Punk faced Morrison in a non-title match. Morrison countered Punk and pinned him to win the match. Next week, Punk faced Rey Mysterio in a non-title match. Dolph Ziggler attacked Rey, and Punk lost by DQ. Two days later at Night of Champions, Punk faced Jeff for the title. Jeff hit Punk with the Twist of Fate and followed by the Swanton Bomb to win the title. They had a rematch on Smackdown with Matt as the special enforcer. Jeff rolled up Punk to retain the title. Next week, Punk faced Morrison. Punk hit Morrison with the GTS to finally win a match.
