I Chose PRS Over Gibson... 3 Months Later

Three months after choosing a PRS McCarty 594 over a Gibson Custom Shop, I sold two Gibson Les Paul Standards, my Gibson 70s Explorer and my Fender American Ultra Luxe. This is how one PRS turned into three, and why I naturally stopped reaching for almost everything else. The journey definitely wasn’t planned. A damaged brand-new Custom 24 was returned, an unexpected deal led me to the PRS Tremonti, and the Custom 24 itch eventually sent me stalking the used market until I found the right one. In this follow-up video, I break down the very different roles these three PRS Core guitars now play in my collection: The McCarty 594 gives me the vintage Les Paul character and mindset I was searching for, with extra comfort and flexibility. The Tremonti became my warrior guitar: tight, aggressive, punchy and equipped with a tremolo that actually stays in tune. The Custom 24 covers the brighter, more open and experimental side of my playing, including the territory where I previously would have reached for a Strat. I also recorded an original song using all three guitars and compared them through the same rig, both isolated and inside the mix. This isn’t about PRS objectively beating Gibson or Fender. It’s about finding the instruments that fit your hands, your music and the way you actually play. Do I miss my Gibson Les Paul Standard 60s? Absolutely. Would I probably compare another one with the 594, stop reaching for it and sell it again?
