Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection(SCAD) : Not Just a Heart Attack

We report a case of a 36-year-old woman presented to the emergency department complaining of spontaneous and severe retrosternal pain. The patient no previous medical history, no risk factors for coronary artery disease and no peripartum period. Her ECG findings on admission were ST elevation in anterior leads and she was urgently transferred to the cardiac catheterization laboratory Coronary angiography revealed the presence of a long dissection involving the mid to distal segment of the left anterior descending artery with Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction (TIMI) grade I flow Rescue angioplasty with stenting was performed. Spontaneous coronary artery dissection is a rare cause of ischemic heart disease and sudden death. Prompt diagnosis is of paramount importance, especially in cases when it manifests with ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI).
