Pope Francis greets crowd of thousands at Ecuador mass - Daily Mail

The 74-year-old will hold the open-air mass in Guayquil less than 24 hours after landing in the Ecuadorian city of Quito - 250 miles away. It kicks off the first leg of his three-nation tour of South America which will also see him visit Bolivia and Paraguay. 'I thank God for having allowed me to return to Latin America to be here with you today,' he said yesterday. The Vatican says the visit is a homecoming for Francis who was archbishop in the Argentinian capital Buenos Aires before ascending to the papacy in 2013.
