North Carolina hit by 5.1 magnitude earthquake, the strongest since 1916

Many North Carolina residents said they felt their homes shaking on Sunday morning in what was later reported as a 5.1 magnitude earthquake, the strongest the state has seen since 1916. The U.S. Geological Survey said they detected the quake near Sparta, N.C. just after 8 a.m. local time. The mayor of Sparta, Wes Brinegar, said they've been assessing the town and have mainly seen minimal damage, though some building foundations having cracked as well as his own chimney breaking off. He added that they did "lose" three houses due to them being "deemed unsafe to live in" and have relocated those families. He said there were no reports of serious injuries.
