Most are associated with David, who started out as a boy working in the family business but caught the king's attention as both soldier and musician. He apparently wrote songs throughout his life, and including when he was on the run from the deranged king and when he became king himself. A series of temple music directors also write songs, others are David's son Solomon, Jewish prisoners of war in Babylon and few others.
