Begum Khaleda Zia, the head of Bangladesh's leading political party, the BNP, has passed away. She was 80 years old and had been ill for a long time. She served as Prime Minister of Bangladesh twice. According to a statement issued by her party, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairperson breathed her last at 6 a.m. on Tuesday. Zia served as Prime Minister from 1991 to 1996 and from 2001 to 2006. She was also Bangladesh's first female Prime Minister. Her husband was Ziaur Rahman, a military ruler and President of Bangladesh.
