If you haven’t seen parts 1 - 3, you should also check them out since it will also help you to build your daily practice routine. This is not an instructional on technique so hold your sticks the way you like using them. I’ll talk more about technique in another video so all you’ll need to get started is a practice pad and pair of sticks. Using this video is as simple as following the color code to guide you through the warmup. Yellow begins the countdown, green highlights the stickings you will play and red indicates the stickings you are waiting to play. The metronome is set at 60bpm and the progression of the warmup will become clear as you follow the color code. I’d also suggest experimenting with YouTube’s playback settings to practice this warmup at different tempos. That’s all you need to know so let’s get started and have some fun… Exercise Origin This play along uses the second column of examples on page 6 in the Stick Control book by George Lawrence Stone combined with a tag ending and 3 variations. The tag can easily be traced back to Alan Dawson's approach to Stick Control but any tag can be added. The objective is to get you thinking about the possibilities and practice repetition to develop your skills. There is no end to the combinations so be creative. My hope is that this play along will give you a direction and inspire you through your practice routine.
