Games. It is a reboot of the franchise and features a new storyline created by Fire God Liu Kang. The game introduced the Kameo system, allowing players to call upon a partner fighter to assist during battle. It is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Windows, and Nintendo Switch. Gameplay and mechanics Kameo Fighters: This new system is central to the gameplay, adding a strategic element by allowing players to summon a Kameo fighter for extra attacks, combos, and fatal blows. The Kameo fighter roster is selected separately from the main roster. Invasions Mode: This is a single-player mode that combines fighting mechanics with board game and RPG elements. Players traverse a map, complete challenges, and earn rewards like skins and in-game currency. Fatalities and Brutalities: The game continues the series' tradition of brutal finishing moves, including Fatal Blows, Brutalities, and Fatalities. Story mode The cinematic Story Mode consists of 15 chapters and is set in a new timeline created by Fire God Liu Kang. It explores the origins of classic characters in a new way, with each chapter focusing on a specific fighter. The Khaos Reigns story expansion adds 5 extra chapters to the storyline. Editions and downloadable content (DLC) Mortal Kombat 1: Definitive Edition: Released in May 2025, this version includes the base game, the Khaos Reigns story expansion, Kombat Pack 1 and 2, and movie-themed skins. Kombat Pack 1: This DLC includes six playable characters—Omni-Man, Quan Chi, Peacemaker, Ermac, Homelander, and Takeda—along with five Kameo fighters.
