Carnarvon Gorge QLD with Kids

The Carnarvon Gorge ‘Great Walk’ is about 20kms - admittedly not a day trip we’re putting our hands up for carrying the kids! So for our first crack, we strapped on the carriers, armed with snacks and supplies, and headed to Mickey Creek and Warrumbah Creek Gorge… approximately 5kms of Grade 3 track. Day 2 was our BIG one…. and was it amazing!! 4 hours to do 13 (ish) kms to the Art Gallery with a detour via the Moss Garden. 6 beautiful creek crossings complete with running rapids from recent rain. But we were WOW’d the whole way. Those sights were something to behold! And on Day 3 (the last hike day), Carissa got up at 4am to tackle Boolimba Bluff while Justin and the kids went platypus hunting. It’s a tough hike! Especially in the dark on a below 10 degree morning. But! That sunrise!! To experience the sites of the gorge we definitely recommend more then 1 day stop… around 3-4 nights is perfect depending on how many steps you want to get up 😂… Right on the door steps of the gorge Is Big 4 Breeze Holiday Park. Before our ‘real’ hikes started, we spent the day exploring the Park itself! It has it’s own creek complete with Platypus, swimming holes and a lookout over the Gorge and of course Charlotte’s favourite… go karts!! By night the communal fires are a perfect spot to wind the muscles down and meet and listen to other explored experiences… (although the red wine & muscle recovery doesn’t exactly go hand in hand). This is a spot truly not to be missed no matter how small your kids are or your fitness level, there is natural beauty and history to see.
