When city records fail to reveal anything about the covert mining the Court of Owls has done beneath Gotham, the group turns their attention to some voice recordings they obtained of members of the Court. Though Alfred recognizes the voice of Constance Cobblepot, the other voices cannot be identified without matching them against live voices, the Knights will need to infiltrate the annual masquerade ball that is certain to be filled with Gotham City's elite. To capture live recordings of members of the Court, the group decides to infiltrate the annual masquerade ball which is sure to be filled with Gotham's elite. But because security for the event is incredibly tight, Alfred has arranged a meeting with the Orchard Hotel's head of security, Mark Hendricks. The Knights infiltrate a masquerade party at the Orchard Hotel hosted by the Court. The Knights discover the identity of their leader and are shocked to find out it is Jacob Kane. Kane reveals that he knew Bruce was Batman and that he is also aware of the Knights' secret identities, and warns them not to interfere with his plans. The Knights are then forced to flee when League assassins attack the masquerade, slaughtering many Court members except for Kane, Constance, and those who evaded the attacks. The Knights continue to investigate the Court, slowing down their plans to awaken an army of Talons to take over Gotham.
