During the Collector Ship mission, Shepard gets Advanced Combat Training — as in, either receive an ability to use an entirely new weapons type, or access a more advanced weapon of a type which Shepard already can use. Since Soldiers can use Assault Rifles, Shotguns, and Sniper Rifles from the very beginning, Soldier Shepard has an option of choosing in-between an advanced weapon of any weapon type, including a unique Soldier-class only M-76 Revenant Machine Gun. The majority of players recording their gameplay here on YouTube, as well as people on different forums and boards, admit to choosing the Machine Gun as their weapon, a lesser group (myself included) prefers the M-98 Widow Anti-Materiel Rifle as their weapon of choice. Yet I have only seen singular people ever choose the M-300 Claymore Heavy Shotgun as their weapon. The M-300 Claymore is a very powerful weapon, albeit, as all shotguns, limited in its effective range. Still, this is the weapon that can inflict massive damage upon a target, although effectively using it requires a whole different approach to gameplay compared to when using the Revenant or Widow. As shotguns are not the most favourite weapon type for Mass Effect 2 players, most overlook the Claymore when playing as a Soldier, which, in my opinion, does this magnificent weapon no justice. In this gameplay video I recorded, I demonstrate the power of the Claymore Shotgun, and how its use makes a Soldier Shepard a killing machine. Using this weapon requires a more high-risk gameplay tactic, rushing enemies to deliver the deadliest blow possible. To effectively use this tactic, Shepard should have received as much Health and Shield upgrades as possible, in addition to Shotgun weapon upgrades. At the time of this mission attempt, Shepard is far from having received all Health and Shield upgrades, which is why he often has to find cover to regenerate his health and shields. Rest assured, with more Health and Shield upgrades comes the ability to sustain heavier assaults unscathed.
