(9 Dec 2020) Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer spoke virtually to President-elect Joe Biden's economic team Wednesday saying the country wants a "bold program to stimulate the economy," not the "austerity" Republicans have provided. Schumer met virtually with Biden's nominees for Deputy Treasury Secretary - Wally Adeyemo; Chair of the Council of Economic Advisers - Cecilia Rouse; Director of the Office of Management and Budget- Neera Tanden; and Treasury Secretary - Janet Yellen. Schumer also said that he would need to study concerns some Democrats have about Biden's choice for Defense Secretary retired Army Gen. Lloyd Austin, who would be the first Black person to lead the Pentagon. Biden on Tuesday urged Congress to waive a legal prohibition against a recently serving military officer running the Pentagon. Biden is suggesting he feels a need to counter an emerging narrative that Austin’s nomination blurs the lines between civil and military roles.
