Fishbone- 'Black Flowers'- Underworld; London-May 11, 2025 Sunday

Although stadium Californians “Red Hot Chili Peppers” are more well known, Fishbone came out soon after them from the same area. RHCP has 4 members and about four styles of music(Funk, Soul, Rock and Pop). Fishbone has seven members and about 11 styles of music(Same as those 4 styles and also Metal, Punk, Minstrel, Jazz, Experimental, Ska and Reggae.) These guys are the real deal. Although their members have come and gone through the four decades of their existence, 59 year old singer Angelo Moore has been their constant and on this tour, original member and keyboardist and singer Christopher Dowd has rejoined the band. Angelo has had his problems but in essence, he is a near genius and one to cherish as the world continues to ignore their achievements. The venue was packed and fans had come from around the country with a guy from Newcastle and a girl from Glasgow; we were primed for a night of explosive Ska Punk energy and we were not disappointed. That they can still deliver at this stage in their career is astounding and the last 40 minutes of their set was literally mind blowing as goosebumps climbed from my toes to my forehead. It had been ten years since their last visit and this was not a gig to be missed. Thank God I didn’t and to witness and capture this night was a major coup. Hold your breath and take in the magic and the glory that is California’s Fishbone.
