Right after the events involving Spider-Man, the Daily Bugle credited Captain America with stopping "Doctor Octopus and Spider-Man's plan," while claiming that Spider-Man is still at large. A series of robberies led by Electro erupt across New York City. While on patrol, Spider-Man spots one of the heists at a building owned by BioTech. He places a Spider-Tracer on the lead thief’s motorcycle and follows him to an abandoned warehouse, where the thief is handing off a stolen briefcase to a contact. Spider-Man defeats the thugs and interrogates one of them before being forced to fight the lead thug: Shocker. After defeating Shocker, Spider-Man follows the thug’s tip to an airfield where the contact is headed. Along the way, he disables a bomb, destroys a machine gun nest, and prevents a runaway plane from crashing. Though the contact escapes via helicopter, Spider-Man plants another tracker on him and follows it to a rail yard owned by Hammerhead. There, he battles Hammerhead’s mafia-employed night crew and Sandman to stop the contact from escaping by train. Spider-Man eventually confronts the contact, who turns out to be Beetle. Though Beetle escapes with the briefcase, he unknowingly leaves behind a clue: an invitation to the Science and Industry Ball. Meanwhile, Electro unveils his master plan to Beetle, Hammerhead, and Sandman: complete the Bio-Nexus Device. In the hands of an ordinary person, it can amplify bioenergy to power a city block. In Electro’s hands, it will elevate his powers to godlike levels. The villains have acquired most of the device’s components but still need its power source. Believing its creator, Dr. Watts, knows its location, Electro sends Hammerhead and his men to kidnap her at the ball. Hammerhead takes several hostages, but Spider-Man intervenes, rescues them, and defeats Hammerhead. However, Sandman captures Dr. Watts during the chaos. Seeking more information about Dr. Watts and why the villains are after her, Spider-Man calls Dr. Curt Connors, his colleague at BioTech, only to hear roaring on the other end. Fearing Connors has transformed into his monstrous alter ego again, Spider-Man infiltrates BioTech and bypasses security to reach Connors’ lab, where he’s confronted by the Lizard. After creating an antidote to restore Connors to normal, Spider-Man learns about Electro’s plan. Investigating Dr. Watts’ lab, he discovers the device can be powered by a hand-sized sapphire. After defeating Sandman, Spider-Man sees a Daily Bugle article about a sapphire called the Tear of Zeus on display at the museum. Realizing it’s large enough to power the Bio-Nexus Device, he rushes to beat Electro there. Electro arrives at the museum first, but Spider-Man defeats him inside the planetarium and secures the sapphire. Still holding Dr. Watts hostage, Electro forces Spider-Man to hand over the gem, threatening her life. Spider-Man tosses the Tear of Zeus into the air as Electro releases Dr. Watts. When Spider-Man tries to retrieve the sapphire with his webs, he misses, allowing Electro to grab it. With the Bio-Nexus Device complete, Electro supercharges himself into “Hyper-Electro,” a being of pure electrical energy, and flies off in a lightning bolt. A wounded Spider-Man follows him to the top of a nearby skyscraper. Unable to attack him directly, Spider-Man uses the tower’s generators to disable the Bio-Nexus Device, allowing him to defeat Electro and destroy the device. The next day, Spider-Man is frustrated by the Daily Bugle’s front page crediting Thor with Electro’s defeat. He walks off, joking that he needs a new agent. In prison, Hammerhead and Shocker are playing poker in their cell while Electro groans about his loss. Hammerhead asks Shocker if he knows any other card games, since all he plays is poker. Shocker decides to ask Doctor Octopus, Scorpion, Mysterio, Rhino, and a Jade Syndicate thug—locked up in the next cell—if any of them know how to play Go Fish. A very annoyed Doctor Octopus continues banging his head against the cell bars. #retrogaming #spiderman2 #ps1
