This video lesson is about the preparation of salts. There are two types of salts: 1.soluble Salts and 2.insoluble salts soluble salts are those which may be water soluble or insoluble salts that cannot be soluble in water. The method used for the preparation of salts are based on their solubility in water..There are five general methods for the preparation of salts in which four methods are used to make soluble salts while one method is used for the preparation of insoluble salts. soluble salts are often prepared in water therefore they are recovered by evaporation or crystallization. soluble salts are prepared by different methods such as: 1. By the reaction of an acid and a metal which is called direct displacement method in this method acid reacts with metal to form soluble salt along with hydrogen gas. 2.Reaction of an acid and a base is called neutralization method. in this method acid reacts with base to form salt and water. 3. by the reaction of an acid and a metallic oxide in which an insoluble metallic oxide react with dilute acid to form salt and water. 4.. by the reaction of an acid and a carbonate, in this reaction dilute acids react with metallic carbonates to produce salt, water and carbon dioxide...... in the method for the preparation of insoluble salts,, solutions of usually two soluble salts are mixed together.. during this reaction exchange of ionic radicals takes place which means metallic radicals exchange with the acid radicals and in this manner two new salts are produced and in which one is soluble and other one is insoluble,, The insoluble salt precipitates or solidifies in solutions.
