GIOVANNI RIBICHESU VS Tito Gobbi

GIOVANNI RIBICHESU VS Tito Gobbi What’s the difference? The vowel placement is different. Although both are baritones, RIBICHESU places all the resonance in the mask, with no chest resonance at all. His sound is muffled, almost like a "Mix" voice. For a baritone, the sound must not resonate in the mask, nor should it be pushed forward and downward from the throat. In contrast, Gobbi’s resonance originates from the abdomen and chest, producing a very clear and pure tone. His vowel placement is low—simply put, his middle register comes from deep within the chest and projects forward across the chest in a horizontal fashion. RIBICHESU uses a downward-pressing type of middle voice, and his vowel placement can’t go low. This example shows my students that even Corelli’s disciple has incorrect middle voice technique. Do you think it’s easy to sing the middle register correctly?
