One of the mediations which happens from birth is atopy. So atopy is detected by elevated levels of IgE. IgEs are the antibodies which are present in your body. The levels are high when they are exposed to certain antigens or allergens, like house dust mites or pollens or anything when it is inhaled. So when they degranulate and release these IgEs, and cause symptoms of allergic rhinitis in the nose, symptoms of asthma in the lungs. So they are atopic. They are inherently more prone to get allergic symptoms. In the nose, it's called allergic rhinitis; in the lung, it is called asthma, and sometimes eczema, and even the food allergens or atopic march is the one thing which we look at normally when we diagnose if it is IgE-mediated or eosinophilic-mediated, or there are some available phenotypes. IgE is the most common phenotype in the engaged group, and if this is high, it gives the background predisposition and the risk factor that there is a chance that this patient can have asthma. So when you have high IgE levels, it is a total IgE. There are specific IgEs—sometimes pollen-related IgEs, we do, cats, house dust mites are the most common things which we see, allergens. We see specific IgEs, which have gone up. So this is a one-time test. When we do, it will be elevated. So there's no treatment to reduce the IgE levels. What we can do is, more prone to allergen exposure can be prevented. There are certain therapies which are being used in severe asthmatics only. There, anti-IgE therapies are available. So, IgE is normally a routine test along with absolute eosinophil count to know the specific phenotype of asthma. So, usually, if it is allergen-mediated or IgE-mediated is a specific way, and there are targeted therapies which are available for asthma.
