Sreeragamo - Track by Srinivas | Sharreth | ONV Kurup

This is a track version of 'Sreeraagamo', which I recorded for composer Sharreth in 1993 for the Malayalam movie 'Pavithram'. For those unfamiliar with the process, a "track" is a draft version of a song that the composer records, often with an aspiring singer, as a reference for the actual playback singer to learn the tune. The song was recorded at Kothandapani studios, and had to be done in a single take—just like all tracks back in the day. This was my voice at the time when I was seeking playback singing opportunities and had just begun singing tracks. I performed it exactly as ‪@SharrethOfficial‬ taught me, completed it in a single take, and that is what you hear now. I once played the cassette for A.R. Rahman, who listened to it and began encouraging me even more. This moment was, in many ways, the start of my playback singing journey. Eventually, Gaana Gandharvan Dasettan recorded the final version, and it went on to become a cult classic in Malayalam film music—revered to this day. Sharreth truly outdid himself with this composition, making it one of his all-time best. The lyrics were penned by the legendary O.N.V. Kurup. The film Pavithram, directed by my dear friend T.K. Rajeev Kumar, was ahead of its time and remains relevant even today. Wonderful trip down memory lane—reminding how giving your all to every opportunity, big or small, can go a long way in shaping a career.
