This is ONN News from the On Hospital Group. The Green Doctors Foundation, an international medical volunteer organization headquartered in Busan, and the On Hospital Group will dispatch an emergency medical support team to Turkey, where tens of thousands of people died in a powerful earthquake, for one week starting February 17. During their stay on-site, the Green Doctors Foundation has also decided to provide emergency support, including crisis survival kits, medicines, and winter supplies, to the people of Turkey suffering from the earthquake disaster, in collaboration with the Korean Church Volunteers Corps, the Global Crisis Response Network, and the U.S. ‘Deep and Wide Foundation’. Green Doctors Chairman Jeong Geun explained, “Turkey participated in the Korean War in 1950, and 462 Turkish soldiers who died at the time are currently laid to rest at the UN Peace Park in Nam-gu, Busan.” He emphasized that Green Doctors’ participation in the ‘Republic of Korea Emergency Medical Service for the Great Earthquake in Turkey’ carries the meaning of “a small token of gratitude to the Turkish people who defended the freedom of the Republic of Korea.” He added, “As an Islamic nation, Turkey considers the country that answered its call and fought for a great cause as its homeland according to religious customs; therefore, the people of Korea and Turkey have maintained a bond of brotherhood since the Korean War.” During this medical service period, Green Doctors plans to meet with surviving Korean War veterans in Turkey to express their gratitude. Meanwhile, the Green Doctors Foundation has experience dispatching emergency medical relief teams to disaster areas around the world, including the 2004 Sri Lanka tsunami, the 2005 Pakistan earthquake, the 2006 Indonesia earthquake, the 2008 Myanmar cyclone, the Sichuan earthquake in China, the 2015 Nepal earthquake, and the Ukrainian war refugee camp in Poland in May 2022.
