Who was Putin opponent and Russian politician Alexei Navalny?

Putin critic Alexei Navalny "lived and died" fighting the corruption in Putin's regime. He was barred in 2018 from running in elections, yet he remained Mr Putin's most powerful political opponent. Navalny was capable of bringing thousands on to the streets calling for a Russia without Mr Putin, and the Russian president famously refused to mention him by name.
