Kyiv residents spend night in makeshift bomb shelter

(27 Feb 2022) Kyiv residents took shelter from Russian attacks early on Sunday and were preparing for a night of sleep on makeshifts beds in an underground carpark. Officials had issued warnings to seek shelter, stay away from windows and take precautions to avoid flying debris and bullets. Many had spent Friday night in basements, underground parking garages and subway stations and were doing the same on Saturday night. Russia claims its assault on Ukraine is aimed only at military targets, but bridges, schools and residential neighborhoods have been hit since the invasion began on Thursday with air and missile strikes and Russian troops entering Ukraine from the north, east and south.
