In this TEQ Video, we will watch a second-grade Chinese immersion class in Jingmei Elementary School in Bellevue, Washington. Chinese teacher, Xi Sun, demonstrates how to develop children’s communicative skills while they are learning a story. Children learn how to share ideas, compare ideas, and negotiate to make decisions in target language. The teacher has organized this lesson in two parts around the story: In part one, the children discover the setting of the story through reading and discussion. In part two, while exploring the story development, the children learn to be effectively communicate in group discussions.
