Pride Sermon of Fr. Carlo Magno O. Saa, FSSPX on Septuagésima Sunday on Pride

Part One of the series of sermons on the 7 Capital Sins at the Our Lady of Victories Church, New Manila, Quezon City Excerpts: "What is pride then? Well, it is the inordinate desire for one’s own excellence. Take note, an inordinate desire. Because there is such thing as an ordinate desire of keeping our good name or honorable reputation. That is not pride, but self-respect. Honor, you see, is a spiritual wealth more valuable than material riches. Perfect pride is when a person extols himself to the extent that he/she refuses to be subject to God and His laws, convinced that such subjection is harmful to his/her own excellence. Yes, they believe that to be under God is demeaning their human dignity! And so, perfect pride is a mortal sin, a contempt to God or to those who stand in His place. However, imperfect pride is when someone thinks of himself/herself too highly but without rejecting God or those who participate His authority. This pride is venially sinful only. Nevertheless, attention, it is extremely dangerous! Imperfect pride easily insinuates into all our good actions and destroy their supernatural merits. "
