Central African Republic: Nutritional Emergency in the Southwest

This child is suffering from kwashiorkor, a form of severe malnutrition. MSF teams have set up four nutritional treatment projects, including this one in a hospital in Boda. A food crisis has increased the number of malnutrition cases here in the southwest region of the Central African Republic. The people who live here are already poor and are experiencing the full brunt of an economic crisis, specifically in the mining sector. MSF has treated 1,800 patients in two months. In addition to malnutrition, many suffer from other health problems including malaria, diarrhea and tuberculosis. Beyond the nutritional emergency, people here have other health needs that require a broader response.
