That set showcased the 41 American League and National League Most Valuable Player award winners from 1962 through 1981, with each Kmart card featuring the player's real Topps card from the season he won the MVP award. Of course, that led to confusion about whether you had the REAL card or a reproduction, and some cards were mocked up because they never existed in the first place -- see the 1962 Topps Maury Wills "rookie" card. At any rate, 1982 Topps Kmart cards are a great historical snapshot of baseball and cardboard just as the hobby was set to explode in the 1980s.
