This video shows three basic methods of importing PDF to FreeCAD. As FreeCAD does not offer native PDF import, it is required to first convert the PDF before importing it to FreeCAD. The first method is to convert PDF to raster image – a png file. This image can be imported to FreeCAD and can work as a reference for further modeling in FreeCAD. The advantage is that this method works for both vector PDF and raster PDF. The disadvantage is that the 2D vector geometry from the PDF can not be used in FreeCAD. GIMP free open source software is used for the conversion to png used in this technique. GIMP can be downloaded here: https://www.gimp.org/ The second method is to convert PDF to a vector SVG file. This SVG file can than be imported to FreeCAD and the vector geometry can be used as a basis for further modeling in FreeCAD. Inkscape free open source software is used for the conversion to SVG used in this technique. Inkscape can be downloaded here: https://inkscape.org/ The third method is to convert PDF to a vector DWX file. This DWX file can than be imported to FreeCAD and the vector geometry can be used as a basis for further modeling in FreeCAD. The tutorial also shows how to scale the imported geometry in FreeCAD so that it has the correct size. Inkscape free open source software is used for the conversion to SVG used in this technique.
