Should The Cleveland Browns Sign Gerald McCoy?

Should the #ClevelandBrowns Sign Gerald McCoy? Yes, yes they should...BUT with certain conditions. In this video, #MikesTakes Episode 10, Mike breaks down some of the things that need to be taken into consideration if the #Browns were to sign 6x Pro Bowl Defensive Tackle Gerald McCoy. Homage T-shirt Giveaway - https://gleam.io/VkDDW/bronwiepostgam... First things first, Gerald McCoy is a fantastic player. He would fit in well within the Browns locker room having previous relationships with two key players, Baker Mayfield (Oklahoma Sooners connection) and Odell Beckham Jr. So from a cultural fit perspective it makes sense. Cleveland Browns Gerald McCoy It may come down to other considerations. McCoy is 31 years old coming off a down year. He only played 14 games, and had 28 combined tackles, 17 solo tackles and 6 sacks. This coming off a year where he had 48 combined tackles, 33 solo tackles and 6 sacks. Gerald McCoy has only played in all 16 games twice in his 9 year NFL career. And he was due to make 13 million dollars this year before the Tampa Bay Buccaneers cut him. Now lets compare that to another free agent defensive tackle, Ndamukong Suh. Suh is 33 years old, has played in all 16 games all but 1 year of his 9 years in the NFL and took a pay cut from the 14 million he was paid last year in LA to 9.2 million to replace McCoy in Tampa Bay. Ndamukonjg Suh set the market for high price Defensive Tackles this off season. He had significantly more production last year for the Rams than McCoy did for the Bucs and will make 3.8 million less than what the Bucs were going to have to pay McCoy. Then it comes down to the age range of the current Browns roster. The Browns starting roster, as it stands today (a lot of things can and will change) average age is 26. That's 5 years younger than Gerald McCoy today. This also stands to throw off the plan that John Dorsey seems to have been putting together in terms of grabbing players that are either fresh young talent or right in the prime of their career (mid-twenties). Bringing in a 31 year old coming off an off year would be counter to that plan HOWEVER, you can never have too many defensive linemen, especially ones that have the level of talent and ability as Gerald McCoy. This is particularly true in the AFC north where the Browns will be competing with the run first Ravens at the top of the division. Bottom line, if we sign McCoy the Browns will be a better team, both on paper and on the field. His value should be around 7-9 million dollars for one year which could be impacted if the Browns and the Ravens get into a bidding war. Expect the Browns to put in a very competitive offer for Gerald McCoy but they will not over pay for him, something that the Ravens may HAVE to do to keep him out of Orange and Brown this upcoming year.
