The story is told from Max's point of view, as he recalls the events of the past few days. The first flashback takes place in a hospital, where Max is recovering from a gunshot wound. Several assassins raid the hospital to try to kill him, but Max evades them and heads to the morgue, where he finds the body of a woman he recently killed. The game then flashes back in time, to a few nights earlier.
