But what's the internet for...afterward, we have a slippery battle against the King Octopus. ········································································································· ✒ GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE GAME: Square Soft (now Square Enix) distinguished itself as a loyal partner of Nintendo in its early years. They contributed two trilogies of RPGs to Nintendo's first two home consoles, but while Final Fantasy I, II, and III for the NES and IV, V, and VI for the SNES were enormously successful in Japan, they struggled to gain a foothold in the West. At the same time, Nintendo was in a phase of experimentation. Many new game series featuring its own mascot, Super Mario, were created, including the Mario Kart series, the Dr. Mario series, and the Mario Tennis series. The plumber had yet to appear in just one RPG – a circumstance that ultimately led Nintendo and Square Soft to the idea of a collaborative project: Super Mario would become the new face of Square's next RPG, appealing to fans in the West and further expanding the SNES's vast range of games. Shigeru Miyamoto worked with the Square team to ensure that the game didn't completely merge into Final Fantasy, but retained its Super Mario essence. To this end, the unique action command battle system was also implemented. Development of the game took about a year and, after beginning in 1995, was released in Japan on March 9, 1996, and in the USA on May 13, 1996. Despite the original intention, the game never saw a European release. To this day, many believe this was related to the major dispute between Square and Nintendo during the development of Final Fantasy VII. In fact, Nintendo decided not to release the game for financial reasons. The game used the rare Nintendo SA-1 chip, which, combined with the massive translation effort, optimization for PAL televisions, and the release of the Nintendo 64, led Nintendo to consider localization uneconomical. An official release in Europe didn't happen until 2008 with the Virtual Console on the Wii, 2015 on the Wii U, and later in 2017 on the SNES Classic Mini – however, it was never officially translated. The story begins, similar to other Mario titles, with a battle between Mario and Bowser over the kidnapped Princess Peach (here: Toadstool). However, the game's uniqueness quickly becomes clear when Bowser's fortress is invaded by a giant sword named Exor, and Mario and Bowser are both defeated and expelled from the castle. Mario, uncertain whether Peach Toadstool is still in the castle, must now find a way to drive Exor out of the geographically diverse Mushroom Kingdom and gain access to Bowser's fortress. He's aided by unusual companions like Geno and Mallow, each with their own agenda. They're also searching for the seven Star Fragments that were shattered and scattered in Exor's attack. What are they all about? And what adventures will Mario and his friends experience in the most vibrant Mushroom Kingdom yet? ✒ MORE INFORMATION: ▪ TITLE: Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars ▪ Japanese Title: Super Mario RPG RPG ▪ DEVELOPER: Square ▪ PUBLISHER: Nintendo ▪ SYSTEM: SNES, Wii, WiiU & SNES Mini ▪ GENRE: RPG ▪ OFFICIAL SITE: http://bit.ly/2USYhB7 ▪ JAPAN RELEASE: March 9, 1996 (SNES) ▪ GERMAN RELEASE: August 22, 2008 (Wii), December 24, 2015 (WiiU), September 29, 2017 (SNES Mini) ▪ METASCORE: 89% ▪ HASHTAGS: #SuperMarioRPG #Legendofthesevenstars #SuperMario ▪ DOMTENDOS RATING: I'll present the pros and cons in the final part.
