When We Choose Control Over Trust 1st Reading - 1 Sam 8:4-7, 10-22a Gospel - Mk 2:1-12 In the first reading, we see a people who desire security on their own terms rather than trusting God’s guidance. Fear of being different leads them to demand what others have, even at a cost. God allows their choice while revealing the consequences that come with it. This teaches us that turning away from trust often begins with the desire for control. In the Gospel, faith is revealed through determination and bold action. Obstacles do not stop those who believe that healing and forgiveness are possible. Authority is shown not only in power to heal, but in the power to forgive sins. This reveals that God’s deepest desire is restoration of the whole person. Together, these readings highlight the contrast between self-reliance and trusting faith. They show that when we insist on our own way, we risk missing God’s greater gift. God invites us to place our trust not in human systems but in divine mercy. When faith overcomes fear, healing and renewal become possible. Today, I will examine areas where I seek control instead of trusting God. I will bring my fears honestly to God in prayer. I will choose faith-filled action even when obstacles stand in my way. I will trust in God’s power to heal, forgive, and restore my life.
