In this video I would like to share with you a full drum transcription and performance of "You Really Got Me" by The Kinks with studio drummer Bobby Graham. The sheet music follows the video and accompanies my performance. This legendary 1964 song marks a crucial turning point in the history of rock music. "You Really Got Me" is considered a precursor to the punk rock movement of the 1970s and had a major influence on the hard rock and heavy metal genres. Bands like The Who and Van Halen cited this song as a major source of inspiration for their music. One fascinating aspect of this song is the fact that the Kinks' drummer, Mick Avory, was not on drums for this recording. Instead, English studio musician Bobby Graham took over the drums. Graham played on over 15,000 tracks as studio drummer and left a lasting impression on the music world. Ray Davies, the Kinks' frontman, recalls in his autobiography when they decided to record "You Really Got Me" at IBC Studios in London. Graham brought tremendous energy and authority to the session. He abandoned his originally planned intricate introduction and instead pounded the drums powerfully, as if to say, "Okay, go ahead, show me what you got!"
