Two Sunnyvale police officers responded to a report of ‘suspicious activity’ involving two men at a Motel 6 on Saturday afternoon, Sunnyvale public safety Captain Shawn Ahearn said in a press conference on Saturday evening. Police located two man in or near a black Jaguar XF sedan, however both men fled across the street when police approached to question them. A fully loaded high-capacity magazine fell onto the street in their escape, said Ahearn. One of the men was shot by an 18-year veteran police officer, and succumbed to his injuries despite the officer’s efforts to save his life. One firearm was found near the suspect while another was found inside his backpack. The second suspect fled east into a nearby neighborhood. Nearly 70 officers searched the area for six hours into Saturday evening looking for the suspect, but found nothing, Ahearn said. Police said the man, wearing a red or orange shirt and blue jeans, is suspected to be armed and dangerous. According to The San Jose Mercury News, this is the fourth person in three years to have died at the hands of Sunnyvale police officers. Ahrean said police have arrested several others in connection to the two suspects, and will make any new information public as it becomes available. It is still unclear what the men were suspected of. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Next Media Animation’s News Direct service provides daily, high-quality, informative 3D animated news graphics that fill in for missing footage and help viewers understand breaking news stories or in-depth features on science, technology, and health.
