ABBEY OF THE TRANSFIGURATION BENEDICTINE MONKS Pyramidal Church & Benedictine monastery in zen - like environs with museum & gifts shop Early in 1981, upon being informed by the Rt. Rev. Abbot Eduardo Ma.Paterno Africa, OSB that the Abbey of Our Lady of Montserrat Manila planned a foundation in Mindanao , the most Rev. Francisco Claver, Sj, Bishop of Malaybalay welcomed the Benedictined monks and offered two sites in Bukidnon : Sumilao and San Jose Malaybalay. It was in the feast of the transfiguration, August 6, 1981, that the survey team, headed by Abbot Africa, Visited the site in San Jose and decided that it would be the most suitable for monastic foundation.
