MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Ohio (WKRC) - A driver charged in a crash that killed a family of three from Mason was ruled competent to stand trial Tuesday. A judge reviewed the mental evaluation for 21-year-old Abby Michaels. She's charged with murdering Timmy Thompson, his wife Karen Thompson and their 10-year-old daughter Tessa in a St. Patrick's Day crash in Moraine, just south of Dayton. Michaels changed her plea in August from "not guilty" to "not guilty by reason of insanity." After leaving a bar, her car hit the Thompsons' car head-on on I-75. The prosecutor says Michaels intended to cause the crash and accelerated toward the Thompsons' car. She had threatened to kill herself after her husband filed for divorce, which happened two days before the deadly crash.
