The “alkaline” in alkaline water refers to its pH level. A pH level is a number that measures how acidic or alkaline a substance is on a scale of 0 to 14. Anything with a pH of 1 would be highly acidic and something with a pH of 13 would be very alkaline. Alkaline water also has a greater pH level than regular drinking water which may help in neutralizing the acid in your body. Alkaline water is a fairly new thing and there isn’t an abundance of useful research published and Robert suggests avoiding alkaline water for a cat with kidney disease. There is no strong research or study showing the outcomes of giving alkaline water to a cat with kidney disease. If your cat has kidney disease, sprinkling a little bit of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) into their water may help with the acid reflux.
