Inner View Of The E-4B Nightwatch AKA The Doomsday Plane

The U.S. Air Force E-4B "Nightwatch" plane (aka Doomsday Plane) is designed to ensure continuity of government in the event of a surprise nuclear attack on the United States. In case of attack, the President, Vice President, and the Joint Chiefs of Staff would board the E-4B at a secret location to assume control of the remaining American nuclear forces. The E-4B would then fly a top-secret route, and could stay in the air for days with the assistance of aerial refueling tankers. The E-4B is reinforced against the effects of electromagnetic pulse (EMP), so its command and control communications, theoretically would not be cut off by incoming nuclear explosions.
