German Chancellor Friedrich Merz told lawmakers he had warned US President Donald Trump about the global economic risks posed by the war involving Iran. Speaking in parliament in Berlin on March 25, Merz said Germany is pushing for a diplomatic solution and working with partners to end the conflict. Merz said he raised his concerns directly with Trump during talks in Washington and again in a phone call, warning the war could destabilise the global economy and potentially benefit Russia in its war against Ukraine. The German leader also said Berlin would consider helping stabilise the region after the fighting ends, but only under an international mandate.
