My recent trip to the Bahamas was more than just a getaway—it was a front-row seat to Bahamian sporting history. Working alongside Sideline Bahamas, I had the incredible opportunity to provide coverage for two of the year's most anticipated events: the inauguration of the FIFA Arena and the legendary BAISS Track & Field Championships. A New Era for Bahamian Football The week kicked off with the grand inauguration of the FIFA Arena in Nassau. The atmosphere was electric as officials and athletes gathered to open this world-class facility. This isn't just a new stadium; it’s a beacon for the future of football in the Caribbean. Seeing the pristine pitch for the first time, you could feel the potential for the next generation of Bahamian strikers and goalkeepers who will call this venue home. The Return of the Big Red Machine From the pitch, we headed straight to the Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium for the 2026 BAISS Track & Field Championships. For three days, the energy in Nassau was unmatched. The storyline of the meet was the redemption of St. Augustine’s College (SAC). After intense competition against powerhouse schools like Queen’s College and St. John’s, the "Big Red Machine" officially reclaimed their title on March 11th. Highlights from the Stands: CARIFTA Fever: Many athletes used the BAISS stage to clock qualifying times for the upcoming CARIFTA Games, showing that the Bahamas remains a global force in sprints and jumps. Record-Breaking Moments: Several school records fell as athletes pushed their limits under the Nassau sun. The Crowd: There is nothing quite like the roar of the BAISS crowd—the drums, the chanting, and the pure school pride. Covering these events with the Sideline Bahamas team was a masterclass in sports storytelling.
